They are trying to understand how the brain assigns value to various options when faced Antonio Rangel a choice, identifying the regions of Antonio Rangel brain that Antonio Rangel those decisions.
Eye-tracking experiments are revealing how the brain compares those assigned values to arrive at a decision. They are probing how such value is computed in social decision-making situations, such as when Antonio Rangel to donate to charitable organizations and making decisions concerning moral behavior.
Another question concerns how neural computations differ when making decisions for oneself versus for others. In particular, he is interested in how attentional mechanisms may alter consumer preferences and nudge decision makers toward optimal behavior. He holds a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and an MSc in Computational Neuroscience from TU and HU Berlin. Previously, he worked on the Computational Neuroscience of Learning and Memory, studying the self-organization properties of neuronal circuits endowed with synaptic plasticity.
At the Rangel lab, he is interested in the computational basis of value-based and perceptual decision-making, and in how these computations can be suboptimal. He is a recent graduate of the Neuroimaging and Informatics program at USC. Prior to this he studied Psychology at the California State University of Fullerton.
He hopes to take what he learns in the lab into potential doctoral programs. In his spare time, Stephen likes going to the gym, spending time with his friends, and playing video games.
